The Elms Hotel (Retford, United Kingdom)

The beautiful old house has managed to retain much of its charm and character in original features.  Conveniently located about ten minutes' stroll from town centre and all its favourite attractions.

Ask for a room in the main building if possible, as these have received greater reviews from previous guests.  Comfortably-sized beds and pleasant amenities with nicely decorated spaces.  Beautiful high ceilings and thick, fluffy towels.  Colours are soot

Excellent breakfast, although not included in the room price, is enjoyed by most.  Plentiful selection on the menu and evening meals were equally good, with recommendations on the fish and chips.

Some rooms have inefficient heating elements in them with exposed pipes which are extremely hot to the touch and burn anyone who brushes against them.  Keep an eye on your children near these units!  Of course, rooms are unbearably hot with such mechanism

This seems unsafe in case of fire, but for whatever reason, windows have been nailed shut in some of the rooms.  Specifically request a room with windows that open if you enjoy the option of fresh air.

A very unpleasant experience for those who have had the misfortune of finding these unkempt areas during their stays.  Health risks come to mind as well as a valid reason to book elsewhere.
