An emerging avant-garde interior made entirely of sustainably sourced spruce trees, Wood’s name gives away its radical design. The towering six storeys of Wood’s architectural structure and façade were constructed. The building casts a shadow over the Mariahilfer Gürtel like an urban tree, giving the three areas the powerful sensation of nature in a downtown setting. For each of the 1,500 spruce trees that were used in construction, they were replaced with one or two seedlings in a nearby forest. Based at the edge of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and near Mariahilfer and Neubau, Wood is at the intersection of three of the most culturally distinct districts in Vienna. Elements of multicultural elements from Turkish and Balkan culture flow into an atmosphere of iconic storefronts and restaurants. Nearby, the baroque church towering over the Mariahilfer district leads into the neighbourhood of Neubau, featuring clubs and bars in the former red-light district.
