About Mill End Hotel
Nestled within the Dartmoor National Park next to the banks of the River Teign, Mill End Hotel is a three star country hotel close to the rural village of Chagford.
There are 15 rooms here, from deluxe doubles to splendid suites. All are individually styled and furnished, each with a modern ensuite bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV.
Once a working flour mill, the water wheel still works, and makes a unique centrepiece in the hotel courtyard. Free parking and Wi-Fi is provided for all guests here.
The hotel restaurant serves a traditional English menu, using high quality locally sourced ingredients and fresh seafood. Regional favourites like Devon Cream Teas are also available.
One and a half miles away from Mill End Hotel is Castle Drogo, a 1930s country house built in the style of a medieval castle, and Okehampton Golf Club is 12 miles away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Spectacular location on the lowlands of Dartmoor.
Set in a traditional country house, Mill End is a stunning hotel that puts you in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park. It’s also on the banks of the River Teign and surrounded by unspoilt countryside.
positive:
Modern conveniences in a rural setting.
The hotel keeps its traditional country house heritage while also providing modern conveniences, like flat screen TVs and luxury bathroom fittings. All in all it’s a very comfortable place to rest so close to the wild moorlands.
positive:
Dog friendly and perfect for outdoor adventures.
The hotel operates a dog friendly policy, so you are allowed to bring your canine pets with you to your room. It’s also a great place to base yourself before heading out for a day hiking or fishing.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Staff could do more to make you feel welcome.
You might not feel like a truly valued customer when you stay here. The staff are not unfriendly by any means, they just don’t go that extra mile to really impress you.
negative:
Dinner menu is a little bit too pricey.
While the food served at the restaurant here is good, it does overstep the mark when it comes to price. Also, the portions are not very large so you might find yourself spending too much and still being left hungry.
negative:
The free Wi-Fi service is particularly poor.
If you really need to stay connected to the internet while staying at Mill End, do not rely on their free Wi-Fi service. Most of the rooms fail to pick up the signal and the speed is pretty slow even at its best.
