Positive Reviews
positive:
Small hotel means big service.
The staff at Old Rectory delivers a personal kind of service you won’t find in chain hotels. The owners are happy to accommodate most any request and point you in the direction of popular local sights and places to dine, as well as regale you with history about the house and surrounding area.
positive:
This is a non-smoking hotel.
This is a 100% non-smoking property which is great if you don’t imbibe and like your accommodations smelling fresh rather than like stale, second-hand smoke.
positive:
Great views.
Many of the guest rooms offer great views of the lovely, mature gardens and the valley beyond. Most ground floor rooms open onto the garden, which is lovely as well, but if a stunning view is important to you, be sure to request a room on a high floor.
Negative Reviews
negative:
The restaurant has its limitations.
Although breakfast is included in your stay, the restaurant at Old Rectory only serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday, for which you must have reservations, and they do not serve lunch at all. Luckily, there are several places to dine nearby like The Rushcutters which serves sandwiches and a light menu.
negative:
Things can get noisy.
There is a rail line that runs right past the hotel and this noise may keep you up at night. If you’re a light sleeper, be sure to mention this at check-in and ask to be positioned in a room where the train noise is the least invasive.
negative:
No pets allowed.
This hotel does not allow pets, other than service animals, which is unfortunate for those who like to travel with their favourite canine companions.
