About Svatojansky Kastiel

The 3-star Svatojansky kastiel Gerhat*** (Svatojansky manor house) is significant because in 1633 Martin Szentivanyi was born there. He was a polyhistorian, Jesuit, professor and rector at a university in Trnava. He was also an exceptional pedagogist, scientist and specialist in canon law in Hungary. In 1860 the manor house belonged to Maria Svatojanska (*1833) who was married to Eduard I. Podturniansky (*1832–†1881). The front side of the original Renaissance building from 17th century was reconstructed in the first third of 19th century. Maria´s father, Stefan XXIV. Svatojansky (*1782–†1839) was probably the one who initiated the reconstruction of classic renaissance style to a modern manor house. The only period-style element which remained to the present time is a glass loggia on the main front side. It consists of 4 massive pillars with Ionian caps. A part of the original urban pattern of the manor house is still remained. Also the chestnut alley is remained from the original park. The hotel is named after Svatojansky family, the original owners of the manor house.
