Authentic Spanish food and atmosphere
A couple of guests mentioned that the hotel has a much more authentic Spanish atmosphere than most on this stretch of coast. They appreciated being treated like grown ups and served Spanish food in Spain, in an authentically Spanish environment.
positive:
Good location near beach and amenities
Though the location was described as a bit away from the main drag, most viewed this as a positive feature. The beach was said to be very close, and this section much less crowded than elsewhere. Guests also mentioned that there was a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area.
positive:
Very decent food
Despite the fact that most guests seemed to be on full or half board plans, it was relatively rare to find complaints about the food. The buffet restaurant was said to serve very tasty Spanish food, and have enough variety so guest palates did not become jaded over the course of their holiday.

Extra charges for this and that
Several guests mention that many things that often come as standard in other hotels attracted an extra fee at Gran la Hacienda. These included room fridge and safe, but there seemed to be many more.
negative:
Limited English language skills
While most seemed to like the truly Spanish environment, a few guests mentioned that the lack of English skills on the part of the staff made for some difficult communication.
negative:
Some rooms overlook oil refinery
While this is hardly the hotel's doing, a couple of guests pointed out that the views to one side are over an oil refinery. While they no doubt appreciated that it was probably producing the fuel that would allow them to get back home, they would rather not have been looking over it while on holiday.
