Positive Reviews
positive:
Great views from the rooms
Going by the reviews, it did not seem to matter much which direction a guest's room faced, the views were said to be good in all directions, with the city, mountain and harbour often mentioned as interesting outlooks to be had from the rooms.
positive:
Terrific central location
Guests were clearly very happy to be in such a central position in Hobart, with many guests commenting that they could walk to many places of interest in the city, of course including shops, bars cafes and the like.
positive:
Historical ambiance
While the hotel does have both an old and new section, guests were very impressed with the older section, saying that it had great character, was beautiful and gave them the impression of being in a kinder, gentler age.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Breakfast not the best
It was hard to find any kind words written about the breakfast. Guests paint a picture of a very meagre breakfast, with the food carefully measured out and some even pretty basic items, like an espresso instead of a coffee for example, not only adding additional cost, but an incredible additional cost.
negative:
Rooms not well soundproofed
A number of guests complained that the rooms were not very well insulated against noise from inside the building, with many saying they could hear sounds from adjacent rooms and the hallways quite easily.
negative:
Beds a bit hard
Quite a number of guests found the mattresses used in the hotel to be much too hard for their liking.
