About Gibtel Lodge & Cafe
Set in a great position just 10 minutes by car from both Heathrow’s Terminal Five and central terminals, Gibtel Lodge provides cosy budget accommodation to travellers needing an airport layover.
Rooms are fairly simply furnished, but are comfortable, and feature private bathrooms, TV’s, tea/coffee stations and hairdryers.
Facilities are basic, but there is ample on-site free parking out front and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. A free airport shuttle is available for guests travelling to and from Heathrow.
There is a traditional British café on-site serving breakfast and other meals. There are also a number of great pubs in the area, well within walking distance.
Gibtel Lodge & Cafe is used mainly for Heathrow layovers, but Windsor, with its castle, and family friendly Legoland, is just four miles to the west. For those heading in to London, Langley Railway Station is two miles to the north.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Free parking on-site
Several guests mentioned being surprised by the availability of free parking on-site, saying that other options they investigated near Heathrow typically charged for this. There were no reports of guests having difficulty securing parking on-site.
positive:
Excellent Wi-Fi
Unlike most comments about hotel Wi-Fi, the comments for Gibtel Lodge were overwhelmingly positive. It seems that they have installed enough routers, and contracted for sufficient bandwidth, for the number of guests accommodated.
positive:
Convenient for Heathrow layovers
Most guests had either just arrived at, or would soon depart for, Heathrow. Most found the location fairly convenient saying it was a quick trip to and from the airport, and that the Lodge served its purpose as an airport layover.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Noise from the planes
While of course guest realised they were at an airport hotel, they mentioned that the jet noise did disturb them when trying to get some sleep. This is a small converted property and it may be that it does not have the kind of soundproofing often installed in modern airport hotels.
negative:
Rooms were a bit small
Like many airport hotels, it seems the standard rooms at Gibtel are quite small. Perhaps the owners reason that guests will be so exhausted after a flight that they will not be concerned about room size. In any event, guests who like larger rooms may be disappointed.
negative:
Café open uncertain hours
It seems that the on-site café is open very uncertain hours. Several guests found it closed during pretty standard hours when they would have liked to have a meal. Guests may have to rely on pubs and other cafes in the area.
