Positive Reviews
positive:
Great location a bit off the main tourist drag
The San Polo area is virtually across the Grand Canal from St Mark's, but is not as inundated with tourists as other areas of Venice. Guests love that they can go to genuinely local restaurants, or as close to local as you get in Venice, rather than feel surrounded by other visitors all the time. The very nearby Rialto Market is also popular with Venetians and chefs buying produce, and a firm favourite of guests as well.
positive:
Staff a terrific source of local knowledge
Many guests report that they received absolutely wonderful local recommendations for dining and other activities. This was greatly appreciated because of Venice's reputation as almost the ultimate tourist trap.
positive:
Excellent Wi-Fi
Contrary to expectations, and their previous hotel experiences, many guests report that the Wi-Fi signal was strong, and that they had no problem using their electronic devices.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Breakfast is a spartan affair
Even the New York Times, who's reporter otherwise loved his stay here, did not think highly of the breakfast offered. It is described as too meagre and a disappointing start to the day. A common complaint is that instant coffee is used at breakfast - a sin of the highest order in Italy.
negative:
Insufficient air-conditioning
A surprisingly common complaint, many guests report that the air conditioning either doesn't work at all, or doesn't work well enough when it gets really hot and humid. In the same vain, a more or less equal number report that their room fridge also does not stay cool enough.
negative:
In need of some minor renovations
While some guests love the slightly “faded grandeur” atmosphere, others would like minor issues, e.g. misaligned shower doors, to be taken care of.
