Clarion Hotel National City San Diego South (National City, USA)

Guests gave a thumbs up to the comfortable beds at this hotel and most  found the rooms clean and well equipped with microwaves and refrigerators. Many guests described the hotel as being more than adequate for their needs. Guests also found the rates reasonable for the San Diego area where prices tend to be on the higher side.

Close to the sprawling Naval Base San Diego, convenient to the convention center and easily accessible to and from the Interstate highways, the hotel’s location was perfect for visitors and business travelers alike. Guests appreciated the easy drive to downtown San Diego and the short hop across the border to Tijuana, Mexico. Nearby restaurants were also a plus.

The hotel staff, particularly those at the front desk, earned compliments from guests for their pleasant, friendly and accommodating service. The staff’s attitude, according to some, was that the needs of guests always comes first.

A number of guests expressed concern for the area around the hotel and said they witnessed  drug deals underway, prostitutes soliciting service, loiterers and vagrants.  Despite security cameras in the hotel parking lot, some guests were concerned about leaving their cars, others felt unsafe walking to nearby restaurants after dark.

According to a few guests, Clarion South Bay is overdue for a major face lift. Some described the hotel as dark and worn looking, others noted stained carpets and cracked and peeling paint work.

Lamps that didn’t function, clogged sinks, malfunctioning elevators and noisy air conditioning units were just a few of the maintenance problems noted by guests at this hotel. Others reported problems with TV and refrigerators. Several guests who were otherwise satisfied with their experience said the hotel needed to revamp its maintenance procedures.
