Beautifully traditional B&B.
Set in the Yorkshire countryside, this quaint Bed & Breakfast offers four en-suite rooms, individually decorated in a traditional style, perfect for travellers who don't like busy and impersonal hotels. Rooms are clean and uncluttered and feature original exposed wood beams.
positive:
Very personal service.
Every guest is greeted at the door by the husband and wife owners of the Bed & Breakfast and even their exceptionally friendly black Labrador gets in on the act. It is this sort of personal service that people love about Thistledown House with most remarking that staying here is ‘like visiting an old friend'.
positive:
Breakfast is the highlight.
Each guest is treated to a traditional Scottish breakfast, cooked to order and to perfection and is considered by everyone to be the highlight of the stay here.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms may be too bright for some.
Some rooms are a bit too bright, the traditional porthole window with no shade being the main culprit, making a good lie-in just about impossible. The room décor itself is also in fairly light shades which may not be to everyone's taste.
negative:
Some rooms are a bit on the small-side.
While some will see the rooms at Thistledown as quaint and cosy, others might see them as a bit small or awkward to get around in. Two of the rooms are smaller than the others so it might be a good idea to enquire before booking, especially if travelling in a family or larger party.
negative:
Not everyone likes dogs.
Unfortunately not everyone is comfortable with dogs, especially slightly larger Labrador-type dogs. While most find the personal greeting along with house dog to be charming and warm, some might not enjoy the presence of a dog on the property.
